About Castle Newfoundlands

Here at Castle Newfoundlands, we pride ourselves in raising healthy, happy, and well socialized Newfoundlands with all of the tender love and care they deserve. If you are interested in seeing which of our pups are currently for sale, please check out our Pups page.

A Brief History of Newfoundlands

Newfoundlands, or ('Newfs', 'Newfies') are primarily working animals which were originally bred for use by fishermen in the Dominion of Newfoundland. They are revered for a variety of impressive traits, from their formidable size and strength, endearing intelligence, and unparalleled loyalty.1 Newfoundlands also excel at swimming, mainly due to their webbed feet, water-resistant, double coat, and muscular build.

The standard breed colors are black, grey, brown, and also white and black ( commonly referred to as Landseer ). The breed ranges in size from 26 to 28 inches tall at the shoulder and can weigh up to 150 pounds.2

Newfoundland's prized nature and robust abilities have made them popular throughout history and fiction, most notably in J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan as "Nana", but also as prestigious pets of presidents such as Lyndon B. Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant.

Rescue Opportunites

Here at Castle Newfoundlands we take great pride in the animals we raise. In addition to breeding Newfoundlands we also provide temporary shelter, love, and care to rescued Newfoundlands in need. Although we would love to keep all of our rescued animals, we extend the opportunity to you to foster one of these beautiful animals. Although they may not have the same appeal as our puppies, we realize some of our clients would prefer a mature animal to share their time with.

Emma - Inspirational Story

"Emma", I brought her home to "foster" her because out of the four that she was with, she was the oldest at 7 years old. I figured she would be the toughest to find a home for. She was missing her "mom" so very much. The way she looked into your eyes, it was like you could see into her soul.

She came into the "pack" and we didn't have a single issue with her. She is the most grateful dog. She loves being with us. She loves car rides! Most of all, she loves to snuggle! It was two months and we knew, Emma was home, where she belonged. I can't imagine my life without her. Emma will be 10 this August and I tell her everyday, "Emma, you're going for oldest living Newf!"

Currently we do not have any animals available for foster homes, but please check back with us periodically for new additions to our growing family of newfs!
